Nurd: Godspeed and Grace

For NURD, music began long before the spotlight. At three years old, she was already singing in church, discovering a gift that would eventually become her calling. In middle school NURD would even sneak away from gym classes and go to her teachers class and just sing for fun until her teacher realized her talent and pulled her from gym and put her in music production class creating music in a broom closet. Being inspired by God and shaped by a love of R&B, neo-soul and gospel, her music reflects a journey rooted in faith, honesty and self-discovery.

Nurd was heavily influenced by artists such as Civil Rights Activist, pianist, and singer Nina Simone. Also by neo-soul singer singer, songwriter Erykah Badu, NURD isn’t afraid to explore the deeper parts of her story. Her goal isn’t only to make music but it’s to create something listeners can understand, feel and connect with. Currently, NURD continues to promote her Godspeed project, from music videos to scavenger hunts around Los Angeles. NURD has shown this album is the reason God makes you move at his pace. She almost didn’t drop the project. Currently NURD is expanding the experience with a newly released Godspeed Live album and her film Godspeed Hideout that was released in June. A forthcoming EP featuring remixes from Goodspeed is also on the horizon.

The difference between NURD and the other female songstress out there is her willingness to be vulnerable without making her story unreachable. She speaks about her experiences in a way that feels honest, relatable and digestible. For her, the message is simple: lead with understanding, love and honesty, remain true to your journey, and trust the path you’re on. Her biggest lesson has been learning to quiet the overthinking and trust her instincts. As an artist, she believes it’s easy to second guess what you already know is good. Now, she’s learning to stop questioning every move and simply go for it.

Away from music, NURD finds inspiration in books, nature and one unexpected favorite: anime. For her, watching anime isn’t just entertainment, its just her way to relax, recharge and find inspiration. At the center of it all is faith. Her guiding scripture, Psalm 46:5, says it best:

“God is within her. She will not fail.”

For NURD, that isn’t simply a scripture. It’s a reminder of who she is, where she’s been, and where she’s going.
